A few days ago, award-winning rock, pop, and blues singer-songwriter Kris Heaton released his tenth studio album, My City of Gold.
Talking about the album, Kris says, “‘My City Of Gold’ represents my belief that there is something beautiful awaiting us beyond our earthly existence.”
Kris explains his approach to connecting through music, saying, “Music needs a positive message to inspire people to realize they can overcome any obstacle. My music is hope. Over the years I have learned that some people play golf, I play music. I thank anyone who has listened to my music over the years and has been inspired by it. Thank you all.”
Based in Stuart, Florida, Kris has been writing, recording, and releasing music for 30 years. He’s hit the national charts five times, toured across the country, and appeared on national TV, as well as collecting 2 million views on YouTube. His charity, Wheels of Hope, feeds hungry people in Connecticut and he played multiple charity concerts for Bahamas Relief after Hurricane Dorian.
Encompassing nine tracks, entry points on My City of Gold include the title track, opening on an elegant piano riding a bluesy gospel-flavored rhythm topped by Kris’ deliciously passionate voice. “You Want It” rolls out on a driving rhythm, full of dark, growling guitars pushing out alt-country savors. Tender yet potent, Kris’ voice imbues the lyrics with seductive, rasping timbres.
One of the best songs on the album is “Hole in the Sky,” a drawling blues tune rife with wafting, oozing textures. Gospel-laced vocals give the lyrics dreamy, drifting textures as blues-infused guitars deliver gliding tones, rippling with melancholic hues.
“Raze Your Hands” travels on funky blues guitars riding an affecting groove, raw and thumping. A wailing harmonica gives the song grinding flavors. “Florida Heat” features skiffing guitars and a powerful beat as gritty vocals imbue the lyrics with sweltering tangs.
With My City of Gold, Kris Heaton parades his delicious blues-rock gift, pumping out swanky layers of sound and compelling vocals.
