Suicide Squad was one of the most hyped movies of 2016 but when the movie finally came out, fans were slightly let down. The film was full of interesting characters that had little screen time, in exchange for over-the-top explosions and a poorly written script. The films 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes speaks for itself. However, the actors themselves had a great time during production and formed a tight bond.
Due to this close bond, it should come as no surprise that a few actors decided to celebrate Suicide Squad with a few homemade tattoos. Getting inked probably seemed like a great idea at the time since they were a recurring image throughout the making of Suicide Squad – they appeared on posters, promotions, and even on the Joker himself.
Joel Kinnaman, who played Rick Flag in Suicide Squad, revealed that he allowed Will Smith to tattoo the phrase “SKWAD” on his bicep. A photo was soon posted to Instagram with the caption “Got me #skwad tattoo:) Will has many many talents, tattooing is not one of them. It was like watching a drunk baby fly a helicopter.”
However, Kinnaman later explained in an interview that the tattoo was a bad idea, “Don’t let a 47-year-old-man without his reading glasses tattoo you. That is a life lesson… it’s supposed to be a sh*tty tattoo, so that’s what it is.” The tattoo gun quickly passed hands and Margo Robbie marked director David Ayer and Jai Courtney, who played Captain Boomerang, with the SKWAD tag.
