How could I have never before heard of Jake Oni or his band ONI? That was my first reaction when I heard and saw him the first time I saw them at The Slidebar in Fullerton, California a couple days prior to their U.S. tour with the Devil You Know (the “Make America Metal Again” tour). We were so impressed we traveled to Pasadena, CA a couple days later to see them again. I knew in doing some research and then talking with him in person that he is friends with Randy Blythe of Lamb of God fame, one of today’s almighty metal voices and best front men. I wondered if I would see or hear any Randy influences, and after seeing and hearing Jake destroy two different stages with his crushing, brutally beautiful singing and screaming voice combined with his commanding stage presence, I knew this guy had/has what it takes to one day become more than a friend of Randy’s, but a peer in regards to his status in the metal vocal community.
