Amid the culturally changing release of the the popular nostalgia-based app known as Pokemon Go, developers and phone companies aren’t the only ones reaping the benefits. Since July 2015, Boston-based tattoo artist Alicia Thomas has been on a journey to catch ’em all. But not through her touchscreen.
Located in Somerville, Boston Tattoo Company’s very own Poke-nerd has searched far and wide to tattoo all 151 original Pokemon on 151 different clients, each person receiving their very own special Pokemon character.
The struggle became real as Thomas rapidly narrowed in on just a handful of Pokemon– some of the uglier or more abstract species in the bunch. But with hope and a few open minded canvases, Thomas was certain to be the very best! After all, to catch them is the real test.
While many might still see it as just a light-hearted trend and a fun exploring opportunity for the family, Pokemon Go is a much needed social phenomenon in a time when tragedy across the world has become a daily news headline. Like Alicia Thomas, Pokemon has been a childhood staple for millennials– an after school escape that most likely lasted well into adulthood. Here’s to Thomas becoming the ultimate ink Pokemon Master!
