Rough and Ready, California-based singer-songwriter Geoff Eido unveils his latest single/music video, “BLAME,” a song exploring the concept of personal responsibility and the negative effects of blaming others for difficulties.
Eido explains, “I wanted to convey my own angst and frustration about living in a world where most of us are blaming everyone else for our own problems. But there’s no power in that. There’s only power in taking responsibility for everything in my life and looking at how it is that I can create it in a way that is powerful and beneficial to those around me.”
Similar to the Biblical warning to hypocrites who see the tiny flaws of others, but fail to perceive their own huge flaws, “BLAME” counsels taking a look at yourself before pointing at others.
In the music video, Eido depicts the protagonist’s problem: that of blaming his wife and outside circumstances for his misfortunes. However, in the end, the man comprehends the ineffectiveness of his methodology and decides to take possession of his actions, followed by patching things up with his wife.
Eido’s sound merges elements of pop and folk, encompassing cutting songs like “Stop Killin’” and “Wells Run Dry” to softer ballads like “Nothing Is Real” and “ALL WILL SING.” His upcoming album, Ordinary Night, showcases not only his creative talent but also his profound lyricism.
“BLAME” opens on a tight, potent drum shuffle, rolling into a syncopated rhythm topped by platinum guitar riffs. Eido’s vocals, rich and rippling with inflected accents, imbue the lyrics with poignancy, while simultaneously providing food for thought and self-examination. For some reason, hints of retro flavors summon up suggestions of CSN&Y.
Innovative and unique, with “BLAME,” Geoff Eido offers up music that’s easy to listen to, catchy, and provocative in the best sense of the word.
