Scattered Hamlet premieres the music video for “Stay Hungry,” their hillbilly rock rendering of Twister Sister’s song. The track is a tribute to Jake Delling Le Bas, the band’s drummer, who now lies in a coma.
Front man Adam Joad says, “There we were, one second we were waiting to see if we landed a tour support slot with an artist we really looked up to, and then I got the call. The heartbeat of the honky tonk metal machine, Jake Delling Le Bas, was celebrating his 30th birthday and fell off a third story balcony….. They didn’t know if he was going to make it. Later though, he did defy all odds and made it, but was in a coma with a traumatic brain injury.”
Very nearly dissolving, the band later realized Jake had worked long and hard to achieve the success of Scattered Hamlet. If the band decided not to move on, Joad explains, “Honestly, that would piss him off the most.”
Rather than disintegrating, the band chose to carry on. The first step involved creating a musical tribute to their fallen brother. Via social media, Scattered Hamlet announced their intention, asking fans to choose a song for them to cover. Joad’s brother said, “Do Twisted Sister.”
After watching a documentary on Twisted Sister, Joad thought, “Wow, these guys knew how to overcome. Here we are feeling sorry for ourselves and should be out kicking ass agin.”
So that’s what Scattered Hamlet did. They laid down a kick ass version of “Stay Hungry,” full of dirty, potent guitars, hammer of the gods drumming, and wicked vocals. The muscular textured energy emanating from the song is palpable, like a punch to the solar plexus. Punctuated by a blistering guitar solo matched only by Joad’s poltergeist-powered voice, the music attains the force of an atomic hurricane.
