Singer-songwriter DG Adams recently released his brand-new EP, Searching For Flowers, produced by Torquil Campbell, DG Adams, and Vinay Lobo.
Along with DG Adams, the EP features the talents of Enrique Maya (lead guitar), Anna Katarina (harmony vocal), Amaike Russian (piano, harmony vocal), Eder Alejandro (Spanish guitar), Jorge Cortez (bongos), Claire Hunter (cello), Montse Montoya (bass), Shane Wilson (drums), Ellington Campbell (harmony vocal), and Jimena Bautista (harmony vocal).
DG Adams grew up attending symphony concerts with his mother, who was an amateur singer. At home, he listened to Harry Belafonte, Paul Robeson, and Pavarotti. Later, in his teens, DG’s tastes shifted.
DG explains, “In my teens, I gravitated towards Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan. I was interested in the lyrics and the voices and melodies equally.”
Opting to pursue a career in acting, DG’s passion for music remained. Then in 2000, he met Torquil Campbell, who encouraged him to get back to music. Since then, he’s released a series of albums, including Feminine Endings, Vajra, The Old Heart, and Nest of Vipers.
Encompassing five tracks, Searching For Flowers begins with “Dangerous,” a bluesy song riding a tight, tasty rhythm topped by DG’s smooth, evocative voice. Enrique Maya’s guitar imbues the tune with dazzling colors reminiscent of Carlos Santana.
“In Absentia” opens on tender guitar tones, followed by the entry of DG’s soft, expressive voice, rife with nostalgic timbres. Claire Hunter’s cello gives the harmonics delicious, lingering flavors, while luscious harmonies fill the backdrop.
A graceful piano provides the intro to “Every Time,” a warm love song brimming with velvety harmonies. “California’s Burning” travels on Latin coloration as DG’s low, redolent voice imbues the lyrics with sad, wistful timbres.
The title track features classical and folk textures, flowing with low-slung gentle filaments from the cello and strumming guitar. The choir-like harmonies on this track infuse the song with luminous glowing tones.
Wonderfully wrought, Searching For Flowers merges singularly imaginative lyricism with plush sonic colors, topped by the redolent voice of DG Adams.
