Meet Code Red Riot’s frontman, Corky Gainsford, formerly from the band Otherwise, where you saw him rip up the skins. He nails it on every level, delivering a performance so epic it will rearrange your DNA. How do I know this? We saw one of Code Red Riot’s first performances at Las Rageous 2017. Other members include Tyler “Taz” Azure – lead guitar, Jon Wozniak – bass, and Anthony Raya – drums.
As I said, having seen them before, Code Red Riot brings it heavy and hard. Imagine if you will, a lightning bug to the windshield at 125 MPH – that is the impact of this band. P.S. – no lightning bugs were harmed in the writing of this review. But, I digress – this is an album review – not a show review. Here is what front-man Corky says about the album in the band’s official press release:
“Living Low” was the first song I wrote specifically for Code Red Riot. The chorus became a proclamation, a mantra, and a war cry to bury my emotional pain of the past and embrace the struggle required to move forward and achieve my next goals in life. Ironically, it was also the song that captured the attention of Sony RED Music, and compelled them to sign the band.”
The press release went on to say, “Following in the footsteps of Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Sully Erna (Godsmack) and Blake Allison (Devour The Day), Gainsford knew it was time to make the necessary transition from drummer to frontman and played almost all the parts himself on this debut album (vocals, drums, bass and rhythm guitar). He eventually recruited a fantastic unknown guitar slinger, named Tyler “Taz” Azure, to round out the album’s lead guitar work.” Now you know the who, the what and the why.
