Trees, in the heart of the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, hosted one of the best nights of Metal Music (on one bill) that I have seen in awhile. Invidia, Wednesday 13, and Gabriel and the Apocalypse were among the bands playing this theatrical, bone crushing metal night. If you missed this show here is what you missed – but make sure you catch these bands when and where you can!
Wednesday 13 headlined the evening, giving metal fans nothing less than a horror-tastic show in sound, stage presence, and performance… well, to sum up in one word: Amazing. Wednesday 13 is Alice Cooper meets Type O Negative with a little Lizzy Borden thrown in. When they tore up the stage metal fans pitted and moshed and had a great end to a stellar night.
Invidia… every time they step on stage you know it and the first time we saw them take the stage was their first ever live show at The Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA in late 2016. They come at you like a bull in a china shop, f*cking shit up, exploding in your eardrums, and giving metal fans a sharp edged, flawless set. Evan Seidlitz, as the frontman, is a massive force vocally. His vocal style not only fits the band’s sound perfectly, but he has an extremely aggressive presence that fits the attitude of the band… and I personally think he is one of the best frontmen in the music scene today. Put behind him the band that includes: Brian Jackson – Guitars, Matt Snell – Bass, Marcos Medina – Guitars, and Darren Badorine – Drums – you have the recipe for the band that is going to not only take over the stages here but stages across the world. Their performance at Trees was proof of this.
Gabriel and the Apocalypse… this was one of the most interesting sets I have seen on stage in a long time. They have a way of taking sex and metal and infusing it into a live performance that leaves you somewhere between very turned on and very terrified. If they ever remake “A Clockwork Orange” this band would fit perfectly into a concert scene. I could not stop watching this band. I was captivated by the songs, the stage show, and well the whole damn band.
Metal fans love their music live, hard, and heavy. All the above bands had/have this and more. So I will leave you with this – check out these bands, see them live when they come to your town, and support local and live acts when you can. When in Texas make sure you swing by Trees.
