Blessed to Paint and Possessed to Skate brought together the best of SoCal’s tattoo and graffiti artists for a worthy cause. Thanks are due to countless people who made the event possible, but it wouldn’t have happened without Jason Brown and Donovan Faulkner at S.T. Tattoo, based in West Los Angeles, CA. The event opened with a reception on Saturday, August 27th at the Vibe Gallery in Venice Beach, CA. The proceeds from the event went to fund The Teen Project. The goal of the Teen Project is to “provide teens aging out of the foster care system with all of the resources and support of an intact family. To allow the greatest opportunity for a successful transition to adulthood.”
Blessed to Paint and Possessed to Skate featured work by the original Z-Boys Jeff Ho and Skip Engblom, plus custom painted boards. It also featured Big Gus from Spike TV’s TATTOO NIGHTMARES, Robert Atkinson, Big Sleeps, Josh Duffy, Bob Tyrrell, Pro skaters Eric Dressen and Steve Salba with DOGTOWN SKATES (who sponsored the event t-shirt). Other sponsors included: Folding Table Gallery, Starr Rum, The Bottle, Westside Organic Delivery NRC, Marina Graphic Center, Sullen Art Collective, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Teri Kinne Events, Vibe Gallery, Coldcock Whiskey, Monster, and S.T. Tattoo.
The reception night included a red-carpet, VIP room, great food, Coldcock Whiskey, art, music, and most of all, a sense of community. With auction items and skateboards up for grabs, this was a must-attend event for anyone who lives to skate, paint, ink, or be inked.
