With every incoming breath of “OXYGEN: INHALE” there needs to be an “EXHALE”, and that is what Thousand Foot Krutch just did. “I had gotten the idea a few years back of having an album called “Inhale” showcasing the lighter, quieter side of the band that has always been part of our albums…and then to have an album “Exhale” that drops the gloves and dives even deeper into the aggressive side of the band…It was always meant to be a two part story,” states TFK lead singer Trevor McNevan.
“Exhale”, the 2016 follow up album to “Oxygen: Inhale” turns up the intensity to 11. This one is harder, not just in sound, but in lyrical style and delivery. Why is this album a must have for any TFK fan? The band is in rare form and at their best, in my opinion, with lyrics that hit the soul as hard as the music hits your ears.
“We fight. We bleed. We live. We breathe.” powerful lyrics from “Incomplete”. This song not only hit my eardrums like a karate kick to the chin, but it spoke to my soul. A reminder to be strong, to face life and to have faith. “We rise. We fall. We chase it all. We raise it up. Incomplete”. The sledgehammer hitting riffs back up the amazing lyrics.
“Running With Giants” is a single from the album for good reason, it is the song that will grab you and shake you…making you want to get up and move and sing along at the same time. “I can be stupid, but not outrageous. I can be sickness but not contagious. I can be empty but I am not nameless. It’s the way that you love me. The way that you love me…”
“EXHALE” is the album that proves that TFK is a force to be dealt with. The passion, the honesty, the heaviness, and the realness break through the white noise that too many other bands are producing. This album has it all. The songs are a reminder that with faith, personal convictions, and hard work you can get through the craziness of life.
Thousand Foot Krutch reaches across nearly all audiences because of the way they are live and on the album – genuine and real. Also, as a side note, for those of us who are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans like me, Trevor McNevan co-wrote and performed the theme song of the new movie.
