Oregon-based singer-songwriter, producer, and guitarist 93FEETOFSMOKE drops a brand-new single, “All I Ever Wanted,” an appetizer for his upcoming album, GOOD GRIEF.
Explaining the album, he says, “It’s a big twist of culture. My music is the intersection of skateboarding, fashion, the Crunk-era, and pop-punk. It’s all uncut and unfiltered. I’m not trying to control everything and make it perfect and pristine. It’s a less-perfect vision of everything. It’s important for me to allow things to be the way they are. It’s real.”
It all began when 93FEETOFSMOKE picked up a $99 starter guitar with a little pig amp. Eventually, he joined his junior high school’s jazz band while getting kicked out of local bands because he “didn’t want to stick to the script.” So, he skateboarded – a lot.
In college, he ensconced himself in North Carolina’s underground club scene, learning drums and bass and teaching himself Ableton. At first, he produced for friends, followed by adding his own vocals, followed by performing and acquiring a cult-like following.
93FEETOFSMOKE says, “I was just yelling my head off over loud 808s and weird beats. Because people showed up, it gave me the confidence to keep going.”
Gaining traction, he crafted “eighteen” for Lil Lotus as well as various tracks for shinigami, family pet, Guardin, and others, while at the same time releasing solo albums – 2k16 Pack, 2k17 Pack, 2k18 Pack, and the fan-favorite BUMMER, including “PPL THT I LUV THE MOST.”
In 2020, he teamed up with Savage Ga$p on “Pumpkins Scream In the Dead of Night,” featuring Shinigami, which collected over 68 million streams and 10 million views on YouTube. He also released SOFUBI in 2020.
“All I Ever Wanted” opens on an acoustic guitar topped by 93FEETOFSMOKE’s strident, punk-flavored voice, imbuing the lyrics with intense tones, divulging surprise, angst, nostalgia, and regret. Layers of vocal harmonies give the tune depth and dimension.
93FEETOFSMOKE shares, “I hope the sound is always unexpected and fresh. At the same time, this is the most evolved and mature version of 93FEETOFSMOKE. It’s everything I’ve been working towards.”
Totally innovative, even genre-breaking, 93FEETOFSMOKE demonstrates the power of ‘not sticking to the script,’ and doing his own thing.
